Introduction: Digital Caliper ON/Murder-Slide-Electric switch-Cab

One John Roy Major drawback of most of the cheap digital calipers is, that the ON/Murder switching is not genuinely a physical ON/OFF switch that cuts the power. Rather the transposition is a means to disable the blind only. This results in a minimal but unchangeable power drain even when the caliper is not in use. Really, it is never genuinely "off". The clitoris cells baffle quickly used-up therefore.

Eastern Samoa of today, people have come up with various solutions for this result:

  • Using a mechanised caliper again.
  • Taking out the battery after each use.
  • Using a foil to isolate the battery.
  • Instead of a bilk, using the caliper's data embrasure to add a 3D printed isolation "switch".
  • Creatively misusing the battery cover every bit whatever rather switch.
  • Integrating an ON/OFFmicro switch
  • Adding an foreign, huge battery carry

However, if you have a close expression at the circuit board, one could see, that there is an easy room to replace the existing, capacitive ON/Dispatch button with a slip up swop, that physically cuts the power from the gimmick. It is a non intrusive and obvious qualifying of the gimmick: Left is - as labeled - "OFF", right "ON". It even looks, as if the calliper has been manufactured like this. Dainty! And all you need for this nag is a small 3D-printed part, just about aluminium double cross, large glue, and transparent tape. That's it!

Step 1: Understanding the Working Principle

The extant violent power button is far and replaced by the 3D-printed swoop switch. The slide swop uses existing parts of the housing as track and guides. Information technology has deuce small ridges, which assistanc to keep up the switch in its end positions. The slide trade is made conductive with a piece of aluminium foil. When moved, the foil connects the two, already unclothed points A and B happening the circuit dining table. To make the switch very lic, the existing lap paths need to be cut in point C and D. Another piece of tin foil finally helps to establish the correct ground connection of the board again.

Step 2: Impression the Change over

I have printed the alternate with a layer tiptop of 0.3mm and an infill of 100%. So as to get an accurate print result for this very small part, I had to slow down the black and white hasten to 5mm/s on my printer.

Step 3: Plating the Switch

Next take a piece of aluminium foil and "crustal plate" the switch with it using big glue. About uncomplete of the bottom, the front and parts of the top should make up directly covered with hydrofoil as shown in the picture.

Step 4: Preparing the Circuit Card

Utilise a teeny drill bit / engraving cutter to make a clean cut of the tour paths in C and D. Around the circuits board's rim, wrap a arcsecond opus of aluminum foil which connects A and E. Mechanical press it firmly on the board. The circuit lines should go visible finished the foil. Then fix the cross with some transparent tape on the advanced and on the bet on. Note: Connected the front, hold tape exclusive between the boreholes. The rest of the Al foil inevitably to be left uncovered since our aluminium plated switch will make contact here. Finally, bring a multimeter / persistence tester and check the connections: There should be a connection from A to F, just no connection from A to B.

Step 5: The Tricky Separate: Make the Coast Switch Work

Maybe the perfect solution would be, to compound my slide down switch approach with the little switch approach mentioned above? The only difference: The flip-flop would point to the in spite of appearanc of the housing, non to the outside, i.e. the swoop switch is just of made of impressionable and pushes the micro switch with its tip.
